Green Mountain Academy welcomes violinist Joana Genova to talk about Bulgarian folk music. Known for its unique asymmetrical rhythms, Bulgarian folk music has its roots in aural traditions that predate musical notation in Bulgaria. Heavily influenced by neighboring Greek, Romanian and Macedonian rhythms, Bulgaria’s folk heritage is rich and varied. This talk will explore the history of folk music in Bulgaria and we’ll listen to recordings as well as some examples played on the violin.
Registration is $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
