SUMMARY:Dorset Players presents Something Rotten!
DESCRIPTION:Something Rotten!  \nMusic & Lyrics by Karey Kirkpatrick & Wayne Kirkpatrick \nBook by Karey Kirkpatrick & John O’Farrell \nDirected and Choreographed by Renee Wymer \nMusical Direction by Lorri Bond \nProduced by Lynne Worth \nPresenting Sponsors: Burns Insurance Agency \nRE/MAX Four Seasons \nUnion Underground/Union South \nShow Sponsors: Haystack Catering \nGSK Climate Control \nMason Dental \n\n  \nWelcome to the Renaissance and the outrageous\, crowd-pleasing musical farce\, Something Rotten. Created by Grammy Award-winning songwriter Wayne Kirkpatrick\, and successful screenwriters Karey Kirkpatrick and John O’Farrell\, Something Rotten was lauded by audience members and critics alike\, receiving several Best Musical nominations and hailed by Time Out New York as “the funniest musical comedy in at least 400 years”. \nSet in the 1590s\, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play but are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star known as “The Bard.” When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theatre involves singing\, dancing and acting at the same time\, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. But amidst the scandalous excitement of opening night\, the Bottom Brothers realize that reaching the top means being true to thine own self\, and all that jazz. \nSomething Rotten features large song and dance numbers\, and a wacky cast of over-the-top characters\, each with their own moment to shine. Throughout its Broadway run\, the musical received a show-stopping standing ovation from audiences… in the beginning of the first act! It’s become clear that “nothing’s as amazing as a musical\,”. \n\n  \nPerformance Dates & Times: \nMay 15\, 16\, 22 & 23\, 2026 at 7:30PM \nMay 17 & 24\, 2026 at 2PM

SUMMARY:Bird Walk at Hildene
DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk\n\nSaturday\, May 23rd\n7:00 – 10:00 am \nThis program is free and does not require admission. \nJoin local birders to gather long-term data on the presence of birds\, their abundance\, and changes in populations. Appropriate for birders of all skill levels\, the walks traverse uneven terrain on forest and meadow trails and around the main house. Meet at the Welcome Center parking lot. Free. No registration is required. \nBird Note: Eastern Phoebe  \nThe Eastern Phoebe is a flycatcher\, a family group generally lacking distinctive colors or field marks. About the size of a bluebird\, the brownish-gray phoebe has buffy underparts and lacks wing-bars or face/eye markings. When perched waiting to dart out to grab an insect\, it pumps its tail up and down. Be on the lookout for this behavioral trademark. The Eastern Phoebe is well known for nesting over a doorway\, on a light post or under an eve\, persistent in constructing a nest of mud and mosses.  It is one of the first birds to return here in the spring. Listen for its namesake call: pheeꞌ-bee.

SUMMARY:GMALL Presents - Pagan\, Jewish\, and Christian Women in the Roman Empire: Literary and Archaeological Evidence
DESCRIPTION:GMALL Presents – Pagan\, Jewish\, and Christian Women in the Roman Empire: Literary and Archaeological Evidence\nWednesday\, May 20 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm at The United Church of Dorset\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGreen Mountain Academy welcomes author Valerie Abrahamsen to talk about women in the Roman Empire. How much do we really know about women’s lives in the ancient world — and how much has been obscured\, mistranslated\, or simply overlooked? This presentation takes a fresh look at women across Graeco-Roman cults\, Judaism\, and early Christian communities\, drawing on both literary sources and archaeological findings to reveal roles far more expansive than traditional accounts suggest. From priestesses and synagogue leaders to missionaries and apostles\, women shaped religious life in the Roman Empire in ways that challenge long-held assumptions. We’ll also examine how centuries of misinterpretation have influenced Western traditions — and how archaeology can help set the record straight\, with implications for justice and equality today. Registration is $20 per person. For more information or to register\, please call our office at 802-867-0111 or visit greenmtnacademy.org. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n—
