DESCRIPTION:When: June 20th\, 2026 at 9:00 AM (Plan to arrive between 8:00-8:30am) \n\nWhere: Parking at JK Adams Kitchen Store and Raptor Lane (across from the Dorset RV Park)\n\nParking will be limited so arrive early if possible. Overflow will be at Raptor Lane.\n\nCourse will be slightly different this year. We are altering the course to include more of the flow bike trails to make the course more beginner friendly. \n\n$30 Registration fee. NO STROLLERS! NO DOGS! Sections of trail are single track technical. \n \nAll funds from this 5K will go towards the 2026 summer crew. Each summer Hike Dorset hires a small crew to perform trail work\, trail building and repair\, invasive species removal\, water feature repair and maintenance\, and other tasks needed to maintain the beautiful parkland and forests of Dorset\, Vermont. \n\nBefore running (or walking) this 5K\, you will need to register and fill out liability waiver at the event. DESCRIPTION:GMALL Presents – The Art of Corn\nThursday\, June 4 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm\, at Southern Vermont Arts Center\, Yester House\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGreen Mountain Academy welcomes food scholar and author\, Darra Goldstein\, to talk about The Art of Corn. This talk looks at imagery that takes corn as its subject\, in the process showing how corn moves from material to metaphor. From ancient Aztec statues to high-fashion couture\, art that depicts corn or uses it as a medium goes beyond the aesthetic to reveal larger societal and cultural concerns. This talk explores the sociocultural meanings of corn as represented in paintings\, photographs\, and other art forms\, including handicrafts like corncob dolls. Registration is $20 per person. Practice techniques for blending\, layering colors\, creating depth and lively forms. Participants are invited to bring flowers that inspire their creativity! The instructor will demonstrate techniques\, strategies and direction for any project of interest. Corry studied with UK artist Ann Swan\, author of the book Botanical Portraits with Colored Pencils\, and teaches these structured techniques. Beginners and experienced students are welcome. Some drawing experience is recommended.
