SUMMARY:GMALL Presents - Four Rational People
DESCRIPTION:GMALL Presents – FOUR RATIONAL PEOPLE\nSaturday\, August 1 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the Arkell Pavilion at Southern Vermont Arts Center\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGreen Mountain Academy is excited to partner with Manchester Music Festival and Southern Vermont Arts Center to present the screening of Four Rational People. Goethe once said that a string quartet is like “a conversation between FOUR RATIONAL PEOPLE\,” and for the members of the Emerson String Quartet\, that conversation is coming to a bittersweet ending as they embark on their final season of a fifty-year history that includes 9 GRAMMY Awards and thousands of concerts. \nInterweaving vivid memories of the Emerson Quartet’s past with delicate observations of life on the road in the weeks and days before disbanding\, Four Rational People explores the group’s difficult decision to walk away from the things that they cherish most in life: the music they play and the friends they hold dear. At once a frank examination of the tyranny of aging and a cri de cœur to pass the torch to a new generation of artists\, Four Rational People culminates with one final Emerson Quartet performance for the ages\, leaving all to ponder what happens to us after the final curtain. Philip Setzer is a member of the Emerson String Quartet and is also the Artistic Director of the Manchester Music Festival. A talk back with Mr. Setzer will follow the screening. Tickets are $20 per person. For more information to purchase tickets\, please call our office at 802-867-0111 or visit greenmtnacademy.org.

The problem? His life is a mess. \nAs Ron and Joy attempt a well-meaning intervention to stop Gary from quitting his day job\, the wine starts flowing\, the “team-building” exercises begin\, and the questions get a little too real. SUMMARY:Dorset Farmer's Market!
DESCRIPTION:Every Sunday from 10am-2pm.\nThis time of year the market is outside – across the street from HN Williams!\nAt the Dorset Farmers Market\, everything you see comes directly from the people who grew it\, raised it\, made it\, or baked it. We’re proud to be a producer-only market\, which means every vendor is directly involved in the creation of what they sell. No resellers\, no middlemen. Just real people offering what they make themselves. \nThis model keeps our market personal and authentic. It builds trust\, supports local livelihoods\, and gives you the chance to truly know where your food and goods come from\, and who made them. \nAlso\, this model isn’t just about transparency\, it’s about community impact. When you shop here\, your dollars stay local\, supporting the farmers\, food producers\, and artisans who live and work right here in our community. That means stronger small businesses\, more resilient local food systems\, and a vibrant local economy. \nIt’s a more sustainable way to shop\, one that supports the land\, the local economy\, and meaningful connections.

SUMMARY:Parlor Music at Hildene: An Intimate Summer Evening in the Lincoln Family Home
DESCRIPTION:Parlor Music at Hildene: An Intimate Summer Evening in the Lincoln Family Home\n\nTuesday\, August 4th\n5:00 pm – 6:30 pm \nThis program requires registration\, and does not include admission for the day. \nhttps://hildene.org/pages/events \nTreat yourself to a summer evening of piano\, harp\, and organ music as award-winning musicians Rachel Clemente and Dr. Alastair Stout bring the Lincoln family’s instruments to life in the intimate setting of the Lincolns’ home overlooking their formal garden in full bloom. A fitting nod to Mary Harlan Lincoln who was classically trained on harp and piano and to Robert who delighted in playing the Aeolian organ\, this is a rare opportunity for audience members to experience an evening of music much as the Lincolns may have enjoyed it in their home. Hildene’s Exhibits and Collections Director\, Gary Parzych\, will share some stories about the Lincolns to accompany the music. Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required\, and seating is limited. Admission is by donation. All proceeds benefit Hildene’s Organ Restoration Fund.

The problem? His life is a mess. \nAs Ron and Joy attempt a well-meaning intervention to stop Gary from quitting his day job\, the wine starts flowing\, the “team-building” exercises begin\, and the questions get a little too real. SUMMARY:Bird Walk at Hildene
DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk\n\nSaturday\, August 8th\n7:00 am – 9:30 am \nThis program is free and does not require admission. Appropriate for teens and adults. \nMeet at the Welcome Center parking lot. Join local birders to gather long-term data on the presence of birds\, their abundance\, and changes in populations. Appropriate for birders of all skill levels\, the walks run along uneven terrain on forest and meadow trails and around the main house. No registration required. Questions? Contact Stephanie at (802) 367-7960 or click to email. \nBird Note: Belted Kingfisher \nAugust is the “finishing” month—time for birds to finish raising young\, fatten up for migration\, and prepare to leave Vermont’s breeding grounds. While many species look quite different from the birds we saw in spring\, the Belted Kingfisher remains easy to recognize by its size\, plumage\, and loud rattling call. \nCommon along lakes\, ponds\, and streams\, this white-breasted bird has a bluish-gray back\, crest\, and collar. One of the few bird species in which the female is more colorful than the male\, she sports an additional rusty-brown belt across her belly. Watch for kingfishers perched over water or hovering before plunging headfirst to catch fish. Though many migrate south for winter\, some remain in northern areas as long as the water stays open.

DESCRIPTION:ADVICE \n\nJuly 31 – August 15 \n\n\n\n\n\nA LIVELY & IRREVERENT NEW COMEDY OF BAD MANNERS \nBy Brent Askari\nDirected by Adrienne Campbell- Holt \nStarring film\, television\, and stage stars\, Katie Lowes (ABC’s Scandal) and Adam Shapiro (The Bear) \n\n\n\nABOUT THE PLAY\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNEW ENGLAND PREMIERE! This play just completed its National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere \nWhat happens when a wildly unqualified man writes a self-help book… and then shows up to test it on his friends? \nRon and Joy’s anniversary dinner goes spectacularly off the rails when Gary — recently divorced\, chronically chaotic\, and newly self-declared life coach — shows up with a surprise: a self-help book he’s written called How To Maximize The Most Successful You. The problem? His life is a mess. \nAs Ron and Joy attempt a well-meaning intervention to stop Gary from quitting his day job\, the wine starts flowing\, the “team-building” exercises begin\, and the questions get a little too real. What starts as friendly concern spirals into confessions\, accusations\, and revelations no one planned to serve with dinner. \nFast\, sharp\, and wickedly funny\, ADVICE skewers friendship\, marriage\, and the danger of asking the wrong question at exactly the right time. Brent Askari’s witty new comedy is an uncomfortably relatable look at ambition\, insecurity\, and the chaos of trying to fix someone else’s life — and will have you howling with laughter. \nFRIDAY\, JULY 31 – 7:30 PM (PREVIEW) \nSATURDAY\, AUGUST 1 – 7:30 PM (OPENING NIGHT) \nSUNDAY\, AUGUST 2 – 2:00 PM \nWEDNESDAY\, AUGUST 5 – 2:00 PM \nWEDNESDAY\, AUGUST 5 – 7:30 PM \nTHURSDAY\, AUGUST 6 – 7:30 PM \nFRIDAY\, AUGUST 7 – 7:30 PM \nSATURDAY\, AUGUST 8 – 2:00 PM \nSATURDAY\, AUGUST 8 – 7:30 PM \nSUNDAY\, AUGUST 9 – 2:00 PM \nWEDNESDAY\, AUGUST 12 – 2:00 PM \nWEDNESDAY\, AUGUST 12 – 7:30 PM \nTHURSDAY\, AUGUST 13 – 7:30 PM \nFRIDAY\, AUGUST 14 – 7:30 PM \nSATURDAY\, AUGUST 15 – 2:00 PM (CLOSING) \nhttps://dorsettheatrefestival.org/advice
