SUMMARY:Vermont's Wild Future: Bridging Our Past\, Present and Climate Horizon
DESCRIPTION:GMALL Presents – Vermont’s Wild Future: Bridging Our Past\, Present and Climate Horizon\nThursday\, November 13 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at The Southern Vermont Arts Center\, Yester House\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGreen Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) is delighted to host Merck Forest & Farmland Center’s Executive Director\, Rob Terry\, for an evening of discovery exploring how Vermont’s landscapes connect history\, ecology\, and our shared climate future. Using Merck Forest as a case study\, we’ll trace the region’s ecological evolution\, examine how climate change is reshaping our world in real time\, and highlight the global significance of this 3\,500-acre haven for wildlife and biodiversity. Set at the edge of one of Vermont’s largest unfragmented forest blocks\, recognized for “highest conservation value” in the state\, Merck Forest stands as a living example of how local stewardship supports global climate resilience. Gain fresh insight into how shifting conditions affect forests and wildlife\, and engage in a conversation about what we can do\, together\, to shape Vermont’s wild future. Registration is $20 per person. For more information or to register\, please call 802-867-0111 or visit our website at greenmtnacademy.org.

SUMMARY:GMALL Presents - Greetings from Manchester: A Pictorial History II
DESCRIPTION:GMALL Presents – Greetings from Manchester: A Pictorial History II\n\nThursday\, November 6 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at The Southern Vermont Arts Center\, Yester House\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGreen Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) is excited to partner with the Manchester Historical Society to present this talk about the history of postcards of Manchester\, VT. Postcards\, once highly regulated by the government and utilitarian in their purpose\, came into their heyday in the early 20th century once photographs and artwork were used. Manchester\, being a destination resort area\, used postcards to promote the area’s beauty and amenities\, and thousands were produced and sold. Join MHS curator Shawn Harrington for another look at a collection of his favorite postcards\, some with very rare imagery of the Village\, Depot\, Center\, the mountain towns\, and more. This program is free because of the generous support of The Keelan Family Foundation and an anonymous sponsor\, however\, advance registrations are appreciated. For more information or to register\, please call 802-867-0111 or visit our website at greenmtnacademy.org.

SUMMARY:GMALL Presents - Hope is Wild: Land Trusts and the Path to Rewilding the Northeast
DESCRIPTION:GMALL Presents – Hope is Wild: Land Trusts and the Path to Rewilding the Northeast\nThursday\, October 23 from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm at The Southern Vermont Arts Center\, Yester House\n\nGreen Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) welcomes Jon Leibowitz\, CEO of Northeast Wilderness\, to talk about the essential work of land trusts\, explaining how they function and why they are central to the future of conservation. This talk will also highlight a particularly powerful and hopeful strategy known as rewilding. The evidence tells us that the forever-wild approach can halve biodiversity loss on protected lands while increasing forest carbon storage. Land trusts are critical in helping Vermont achieve the objectives of Act 59\, the Community Resilience and Biodiversity Protection Act\, which establishes the ambitious goal to conserve 30% of Vermont’s lands and waters by 2030. Registration is $20 per person. For more information or to register\, please call our office at 802-867-0111 or visit greenmtnacademy.org.
