SUMMARY:Southern Vermont Arts Center Presents Into the Abstract: Paul Gruhler and Neha Vedpathak
DESCRIPTION:Curated by SVAC’s Alison Crites\, Into the Abstract will be on view through January 4\, 2026. An opening reception will be held on Saturday\, June 28\, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. in the Elizabeth de C. Wilson Museum. \nSVAC has three concurrent exhibitions opening June 28—the campus will be alive and ready to view. The opening reception will be free and open to the public. SVAC encourages free registration available at: https://www.svac.org/class/into-the-abstract-exhibition-preview-party/. \nSouthern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC) is excited to announce Into the Abstract\, an exhibition opening June 28\, 2025\, at the Elizabeth de C. Wilson Museum in Manchester\, Vermont. This dynamic exhibition brings together two compelling voices in contemporary abstraction—Paul Gruhler and Neha Vedpathak—artists separated by generations but deeply connected through their commitment to form\, process\, and introspection. \nPresented with generous support from the Art Bridges Foundation and the Wolf Kahn Foundation\, Into the Abstract examines how abstraction continues to serve as a powerful language for expression\, structure\, and meaning. \nFor over sixty years\, Vermont-based Paul Gruhler (b. 1941) has explored geometric abstraction through paintings\, drawings\, and sculpture. His meticulous approach—rooted in structure\, balance\, and color—acquired renewed personal significance following a later-in-life diagnosis of severe dyslexia. In contrast\, Neha Vedpathak (b. 1982)\, who grew up in Pune\, India\, and now resides in Detroit\, MI\, embraces abstraction as a site of emotional and cultural exploration. Since 2009\, she has worked with a self-invented “plucking” technique\, laboriously separating fibers in handmade Japanese paper before reassembling and painting them\, creating vibrant\, textured compositions that speak to time\, labor\, and care. \nThough stylistically distinct\, both artists share affinities with minimalist traditions: the disciplined use of line\, shape\, and negative space. These themes are expanded by the inclusion of national loans within the exhibition space from the Art Bridges Foundation\, including works by Sam Gilliam\, Felix Gonzalez-Torres\, and Alice Trumbull Mason—further deepening the conversation between historic and contemporary abstraction. \nAlison Crites\, curator of Into the Abstract for SVAC\, commented: “Since inception\, the touchstone of the project has been the striking visual language of geometry\, space\, and color that permeates and connects Paul and Neha’s work. Over time\, it felt important to expand the narrative to consider how notions of slow productivity intersect with their artistic process and practice in ways that feel acutely relevant to our post-pandemic society. Furthermore\, through generous loans from the Art Bridges Foundation\, we’ve been able to broaden our exploration of what delving “into the abstract” can look like and mean for a range of artists.” \nAt the core of Into the Abstract is a meditation on intentionality. Whether in Gruhler’s structured layering or Vedpathak’s slow\, meditative process\, both artists offer an antidote to today’s fast-paced life. The exhibition invites viewers to pause\, look closely\, and consider how abstraction can offer both clarity and complexity.

SUMMARY:Dorset Theatre Festival Presents: Salvage
DESCRIPTION:SALVAGE: A HEARTWARMING NEW COMEDY \nAt her small town dump\, Carla attempts to junk the overwhelming collection of mirrors from her childhood home. Instead\, amid other people’s trash\, she finds the treasure of two new friends she didn’t know she needed. Past lives and future plans intertwine – and sometimes collide – as together these neighbors sort through what to toss and what to take away. And maybe\, discover the magic potion for moving on? A funny and heartwarming new play by Lena Kaminsky about what can happen when we allow ourselves to be seen. \n“As a newcomer to a small town in upstate New York during the heart of the pandemic\, I started writing SALVAGE following my first visits to the town transfer station. What started as dropping off my trash turned into something else. I found myself lingering\, laughing\, and getting to know my neighbors. In those exchanges\, I rediscovered the power of connection that had been lost in those early days of isolation. I also found\, to my surprise\, that the dump was a beautiful place. I first went there thinking it would be\, well…a dump\, and I was all wrong. Instead I found a place where order and tidiness arose from chaos and mess. One of those times that life presents you with the thing you didn’t even know you needed. Dorset Theatre Festival is the perfect home for this story and I am so excited to share it with this community. Much like the rural town that inspired this play\, I think the themes of community and connection will resonate with the audience here\, and folks will leave feeling hopeful. See you at the dump!” — Lena Kaminsky\, PlaywrightSchedule of Performances: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWeek 1\n\nFRIDAY\, JUNE 20 – 7:30 PM (PREVIEW)\n*SATURDAY\, JUNE 21 – 7:30 PM (OPENING NIGHT)\nSUNDAY\, JUNE 22 – 2:00 PM\n\n\nWeek 2\n\nWEDNESDAY\, JUNE 25 – 2:00 PM\nWEDNESDAY\, JUNE 25 – 7:30 PM\nTHURSDAY\, JUNE 26 – 7:30 PM\nFRIDAY\, JUNE 27 – 7:30 PM\nSATURDAY\, JUNE 28 – 2:00 PM\nSATURDAY\, JUNE 28 – 7:30 PM\nSUNDAY JUNE 29 – 2:00 PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWeek 3:\n\nWEDNESDAY\, JULY 2 – 2:00 PM\nWEDNESDAY\, JULY 2 – 7:30 PM\nTHURSDAY\, JULY 3 – 2:00 PM (Matinee Performance)\nFRIDAY\, JULY 4 – 2:00 PM (Matinee Performance)\nSATURDAY\, JULY 5 – 2:00 PM (Closing Performance)

SUMMARY:Say Goodbye to Nature?
DESCRIPTION:Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) presents Say Goodbye to Nature: How the Trump Administration is Rapidly Dismantling a Half-Century of Environmental Protection. GMALL welcomes three environmentalists\, Bob Dreher\, Sharon Tisher\, and Jim Engell with extensive careers in environmental law\, government agencies\, non-profit conservation organizations\, and university education on climate change and other environmental concerns\, for an in-depth discussion on how the current administration is rapidly dismantling our national and state systems of environmental protection. They will focus on what is happening and what we can do about it. John Kress will moderate the conversation. In less than 100 days since he was inaugurated\, President Donald Trump and his administration are on the path to undo over fifty years of environmental law. Until now\, American presidents\, working with Congress\, have strived to build a strong national system to protect habitats\, conserve species\, restrict soil\, air and water pollution\, regulate pesticides\, and reduce greenhouse gases to slow climate change. All of these safeguards to protect and preserve our environments are now under serious threat from the current administration and the Republican-controlled Congress. Registration is $20 per person. The Zoom link will be sent 24 hours in advance of the program. For more information or to register please call our office at 802-867-0111 or visit greenmtnacademy.org.
