Green Mountain Academy welcomes author, Elayne Clift, to lead this five-session course on how women—individually and collectively—have advanced equality and human rights from ancient times to today. Through presentations, discussion, short readings, and video clips, participants reflect on women’s experiences and activism through the lens of gender in an engaging, shared learning environment. We begin with notable women of the ancient and medieval worlds, then move through major social movements across the centuries, including the Suffrage Movement (1848–1920). The course examines the Women’s Movement of the 1960s and ’70s, the global impact of the United Nations Decade for Women conferences and the 1995 Beijing Conference and concludes with 21st-century leaders who continue to shape social justice through advocacy, political leadership, and organizational change.
