The Dorset Conventions | Saturday, July 18th at 3:30PM
Join Jon Mathewson and Jonah Spivak to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary this summer with a history lecture followed by a demonstration of the 1764 manual of arms musket drill outside.
Historian and author Jon Mathewson will talk about the 1775 and 1776 meetings that made up the Dorset Conventions. Learn what happened, why, and how the decisions made at those pivotal meetings still impact us today. During the war, the delegates had to decide what their relationships were with New Hampshire, New York, the Continental Congress, and the British. Jon will also talk about the long-standing confusion as to where the Dorset Conventions were held.
