Alexander Gardner: Capturing Lincoln and The Civil War

May 21 2024 - May 21 2024 • Time: 5:30 - 7:00PM

Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) is delighted to welcome back writer and photographer Christopher Dant to talk about the photographs of Alexander Gardner. Overshadowed by his employer, the famed Civil War photographer Matthew Brady, Alexander Gardner—more than any photographer—captured the horrors of the Civil War and some of the most remarkable images of Abraham Lincoln. His work and its controversy is astonishing—Gardner’s exceptional images defined the era and captured two of the most historic and iconic photographs of Lincoln at Gettysburg and at The Second Inaugural, which would be the last image of the great President ever taken. Join photographer Christopher Dant as he leads us through some of the most remarkable—and little known—history of the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln through Alexander Gardner’s beautiful yet consequential photographic images that have ever been captured. Registration is $22 per person. For more information or to register, please call our office at 802-867-0111 or visit www.greenmtnacademy.org
