Women and War: Honoring All Those Who Serve
Tuesday, September 22 from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm via Zoom
Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) continues its yearlong “Women ’20-’20” celebration by welcoming journalist and author Elayne Clift to talk about the ways in which women have historically served in war. Since the days of the goddess Athena, armed and shouting war cries, there have always been female fighters. Some, often dressed as men, fought in battle alongside male warriors. Some served as nurses, ferried airplanes or worked in factories. Others served as intelligence officers, code breakers, or journalists. Some saved others, and some were brutally victimized but survived. No matter their contribution to wartime, many a war heroine has gone unnoticed, been devalued, or been forgotten. This presentation, which includes visuals, puts a female face on the reality of war and leaves them forgotten no more while revealing their actions and courage. Registration for the talk is $15 per person in advance. For more information or to register, please call 802-867-0111 or visit our website at greenmtnacademy.org.
