Green Mountain Academy of Lifelong Learning Presents “Whistleblowers: Sustaining Democracy in America Since 1778”

Jun 23 2020 - Jun 23 2020 • Time: 5:30-7:00pm Education & History and For the Family

Tuesday, June 23  5:30 – 7:00 pm via Zoom
Green Mountain Academy for Lifelong Learning (GMALL) welcomes Middlebury College Professor Allison Stanger to talk about whistleblowers. Whistleblowing is in America’s DNA and has played an important role in keeping those in power honest since the birth of our nation. Misconduct by those in high places is always dangerous to reveal. Whistleblowers thus face conflicting impulses. By challenging and exposing transgressions by the powerful, they perform a vital public service—yet they always suffer for it. This talk will bring to light how whistleblowing, an important but unrecognized cousin of civil disobedience, has held powerful elites accountable in America and will analyze a range of whistleblowing episodes from the time of the Revolutionary War to the present. Registration for the talk is $10 in advance. For more information or to register, please call 802-867-0111 or visit our website at greenmtnacademy.org.
